Caribbean Update - June 2018You may have seen my previous blogs, from September last year, when we were busy putting teams together to assist in repair work from the tradgedy of hurricanes Irma and Maria, or from December 2017 when I talked about the skills gap in the region. The issue we were facing was the degree of importance surrounding previous Caribbean experience when hiring companies in the region are shortlisting, versus skills and experience gained outside the region. To a degree this has played out so far this year as we expected, with many companies preferring that international construction professionals have Caribbean experience, but most adopting this criteria as a "nice to have" rather than an "essential" make up of the successful candidate. At Thatcher Associates, across the region we are seeing a picture of slightly increased year-on-year demand causing salary increases, with many companies now having full order books and many being prepared to invest for the long term in professional staff; for example, hiring a staff into relatively junior roles with the potential to lead projects in the future having developed a track-record with the business. There are several roles which are in the spotlight at present, either because they are urgently required, or come with an interesting project or set of prospects attached. Please check the vacancies below and do contact me if you think that one might be of particular interest to you, or forward a link to any colleagues or friends if you think they might be interested.
