Thatcher Associates are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Manager/ Engineering Design Manager who is well accustomed to infrastructure design for residential and mixed use projects. This is a newly released opportunity with a leading developer, covering schemes large scale community schemes in Bristol.

About the role:

You will provide all infrastructure engineering designs in house ranging from initial project development, through planning, detailed design and construction.  

As Infrastructure Manager you will be responsible for the day to day running of the various planning submission designs, detailed engineering designs, programme management/reporting, input into the tendering process and responding to construction queries.

This role would ideally suit an existing Technical Manager or an Engineer with experience of designing large mixed-use developments.

Typical Duties
  • To undertake the management of projects from initial briefing through to design, construction and up to adoption within the specified timescales
  • Production of design scopes for civils, landscape, earthworks, structural, and any other design elements that are required
  • Manage the strategic design of the utility strategies for projects
  • Engage with potential utility suppliers to obtain and secure capacity reservations
  • Obtain quotations for all utility supplies
  • Liaise with the Commercial team to ensure utilities orders are placed
  • Management and liaison of 3rd party consultants
  • To manage and train junior members of staff as the in-house engineering department evolve
  • To provide technical advice within the company for planning applications, etc
  • Liaison with Statutory Authorities
  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety Policy
  • Specific activities such as considering any development adjustments and how it may affect design/construction
  • To assist in the preparation of engineering reports contained in board papers
  • Leading project meetings, and project communications
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of all processes
  • Keeping up to date with changing legislation and codes of practice to ensure compliance
Essential skills and experience
  • BEng or similar technical qualification/experience, and/or an HNC/HND with relevant knowledge gained in a design office environment
  • Experience of liaising with utility companies and multi-lay utility providers
  • Understanding of typical loadings/demands of various types of development
  • Understanding of changes to regulations and legislation
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • The ability to visualise and explain design concepts
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Accurate with an eye for detail
  • The ability to build close relationships with highway and water authorities
  • A thorough understanding of technical, regulatory and commercial issues
  • High degree of commercial awareness
  • Familiar with RIBA design stages
