Technical Manager with an engineering bias?

Would you like to work for a new regional housing developer in Bristol, with no legacy issues?

New opportunity for an experienced Technical Manager with an engineering bias, to join a regional housing developer in the Bristol area. Typical sites from 80-190 units, and consist of timber frame townhouses and mid-rise apartments on brownfield sites.

What will I be responsible for?

As the Engineering Technical Manager, you will be expected to manage sites from site identification through to completion whilst managing and monitoring site progress. 

You will review civil and structural engineering designs to ensure compliance and be responsible for financial appraisals, which will help inform the land buying team. It’s expected you will assess the design proposals in relation to minimising development costs whilst adding value. As the Engineering Technical Manager you will manage the consultants involved, liaising with architects and sub-contractors to coordinate technical information throughout the project team. 

To summarise:
  • Report on the viability of developments which include utility searches and site investigations;
  • Assess construction challenges and risks;
  • Review all specialist reports and advise on Flood Risk Assessment, Highways and Ecology;
  • Provide supporting documents for the planning application including utility statements;
  • Advise on separate legal agreements to facilitate developments i.e Section 278 Agreement and sewer diversions;
  • Submit relevant applications under Building Regulations;
  • Sound knowledge of Local Highway Authority Standards, NHBC standards, DMRB, Planning Policy Guidelines and Sewers for Adoptions.
What experience will I need?

You will need to have had a previous role either as an Engineering Manager/Design Engineer/Technical Coordinator/Engineering Technical Manager and have worked within the residential sector. Experience on small to large scale housing developments is expected and the commercial nous to challenge designs from an engineering viewpoint.  
  • 5+ years experience at Manager level
  • Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • Strong management and communication skills
  • Residential experience with a house builder/main contractor/consultancy
  • Good organisation skills with the ability to keep accurate records of detailed information
  • Effective problem solving skills.
